URB is an international non-profit research organization affiliated with the University of Chicago. The organization conducts research, training, and community service activities for the improvement of human health in Bangladesh and beyond. URB works closely with scientists, health professionals and policy makers from partner institutions in Bangladesh, the USA, and other countries. Priority areas of intervention include: water, air pollution and health outcomes; cause, prevention and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs); prevention of disease through health education and promotion; and cause and prevention of eye disease. URB conducts research on: maternal and child health; primary health care in the community; mental health and wellbeing; oral health; urban health; occupational health hazards; climate change and health effects; violence and health effects; and on using electronic health record systems, including mHealth. Moreover, the organization has international educational institutions that train public health professionals and clinicians. URB also organizes workshops, conferences and seminars on different health topics.
