The School is designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Human Resource for Health Development. It hosts two South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChi) in health systems, complexity and social change, and health systems governance. The School also houses the Centre for Research in HIV and AIDS. Most research projects undertaken focus on: health policy and systems; social determinants of health; strengthening primary health care and district health systems; building a district-based public health system; program interventions (HIV/AIDS/TB; MCH, PH, Nutrition, NCDs); as well as health systems analysis and innovation (HR, health promotion, health policy). The School of Public Health and Family Medicine is a multidisciplinary department in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town. The teaching, research and service extend to a wide range of settings and content areas consistent with the evolving disciplines of public health and family medicine.
