Course Overview

This self-paced online course examines the history, concepts, organization, and strategies in primary healthcare to provide a comprehensive introduction and understanding of what primary healthcare is, why it is important, and how we can strengthen it in different local contexts.

The Course has 4 modules that will provide participants with the history and evolution of primary healthcare and dive into the principles, operational organization, and strategies of primary healthcare using the WHO Primary healthcare levers.  The course will utilize real-world case examples comparing several primary healthcare systems and explore the current challenges and opportunities for PHC strengthening to help participants apply these lessons within their own context.

  • Describe the historical context and development of primary healthcare
  • Identify and define the fundamental concepts, organization, policies, and strategies of primary health care
  • Compare and contrast national primary health care systems from around the world, applying PHC concepts
  • Identify the current challenges and opportunities in building and strengthening national primary healthcare systems

Course Format

In this 12 CEU course, the majority of the content is delivered to you through self-paced learning modules, in which you can learn at your own pace, followed by virtual discussions with experts and leaders from Ethiopia and other countries.
